Mary's Elbow Cream

This recipe was created for Mary who has rough and raw elbows. She is very much looking forward to spring so she can wear short sleeves.

This was made on the blog on December 22nd, 2009.

    10 grams beeswax
    20 grams Cranberry Seed Oil
    50 grams Shea Butter, Unrefined
    10 grams Olive Oil
    9 grams castor oil
0.5 grams Bourbon Geranium Essential Oil
0.5 grams Lavender 40/42 Essential Oil

Weigh all the ingredients into a microwave-safe beaker. Heat on high for 1 minute. Stir well. An additional 15 seconds may be needed. Do not heat until the mixture is liquid, leave some specks of beeswax that will melt as you stir. This action will help prevent the mixture from getting too hot. Pour into 2 ounce jar and tins. Allow to cool completely. Cap and label.

This mixture is a heavy mixture and not suitable as a light moisturizer. The intention of this mixture is to help rough skin that is dry and cracking due to the winter weather. A little will go a long way. The mixture is salve like in consistency, firm yet giving when removed from the jar. If you want an unscented mixture omit the essential oils. These two essential oils were chosen since they are promoted as beneficial to the skin.

Yield is 100 grams, I filled a single 2 ounce low profile jar and 4 slip style lip tins. Please adjust as necessary to provide the quantity you desire to make. This recipe will work in the lotion bar tubes as well.
