I have more photos for our Fragrance Testing Series! This is a long series of blog posts that shows the testing of our fragrances in Cold Process Soap. We are testing ALL of the fragrances in our catalog at their maximum recommended usage rate for Cold Process Soap and showing you pictures of what the finished soaps look like in a side by side comparison with an unscented control batch. Since these fragrances are all being tested at their maximum recommended usage rate, I wouldn’t recommend using more fragrance. These soaps are strongly scented and will smell much stronger when wet.

Our first fragrance today in Cold Process Soap is Lemon Zinger. Our catalog notes that Lemon Zinger “Summer time is the time to get refreshed with lemonade! A fun citrus scent that we have blended with other fruity scents to create some very refreshing summertime scents. We have even blended this with sandalwood for an awesome men’s fragrance.” Lemon Zinger has a definite lemon punch and a great wake me up fragrance. You can’t miss the zing here. It reminds me of a carbonated lemonade.
There was not any discoloration of note and this means you can make that yellow and white swirl you have always been dreaming of without worrying about the fragrance causing discoloration. Our second fragrance in Cold Process Soap is Lemon Verbena. Under the description for Lemon Verbena, our catalog says “Our lemon verbena fragrance oil is a fabulous new addition to your line! With notes of spring greens, herbs, white lilies, citrus, apples and a hint of mint this new fragrance will have you refreshed and invigorated all day! Our recent shipments have included samples of this new fragrance and the wonderful comments have been pouring in. One gal even compared it to the invigorating splash from Jean Nate. Remember the television commercials? I couldn’t wait to make a body splash and use it liberally too!”

Our third fragrance in Cold Process Soap is Lemon Sugar (type). According to our catalog, Lemon Sugar type is “a happy fragrance that combines zesty citrus notes of Italian lemon, yuzu, mandarin with lychee, orange blossom and ginger flower, then adds sensual undertones of oak moss, caramel, and white sandal.” This citrus sweet scent is a perfect lift me up fragrance. A great combination for the lemon lovers out there.

Our fourth fragrance in Cold Process Soap is Coconut Lemongrass. According to our catalog, Coconut Lemongrass is “just meant for each other. These two definitely complement each other well. Discover the sensory treasure of tantalizing lemongrass enhanced with the tropical pleasures of coconut. True refreshment!” This scent has a lovely warm combination of fresh lemon with a touch of tropical coconut.
There is a minimal discoloration of note a soft pale barely there tan. We used the maximum suggested usage rate of 2.5%, which is 0.4 ounces of fragrance in our 1 pound test batch. |
| Our fifth and last fragrance for today in Cold Process soap is Dream (type). Dream according to our catalog states that “Dream is a mix of white freesia, orange flower and pure cloud is how The Gap defines their popular fragrance. Now you can put this clean scent in your soaps, lotions and other products to enjoy!” Dream scented soap is exactly that dreamy, a fresh clean scent that is uplifting but not overwhelming, very calming like having your head in the clouds effect.

Our temperatures for lye and oils are between 125°F and 130°F to handle our currently cool weather. We make our soap with a 6% superfat. All of the batches we make are mixed to light trace and then the fragrance is added. After the fragrance is added we mix until the fragrance is incorporated and then we pour into the mold.
