Fragrance Testing in Cold Process Soap: Punch Party, Red Grape & Blueberry, Berries & Twigs, Cranberry, and Earth
I have more photos for our Fragrance Testing Series! This is a long series of blog posts that will show the testing of our fragrances in Cold Process Soap. We are testing ALL the fragrances in our catalog at their maximum recommended usage rate for Cold Process Soap and showing you pictures of what the finished soaps look like in a side by side comparison with an unscented control batch. Since these fragrances were tested at their maximum recommended usage rate, I wouldn’t recommend using more fragrance! These soaps are strongly scented and will smell much stronger when wet!
| Our first fragrance today in Cold Process Soap is Punch Party. According to our catalog, Punch Party is “A fun, fruity scent that is fabulous for summer! An umbrella drink blend of pineapple and coconut, with a touch of banana and a twist of lemon. How could we make it better? We topped it with a single raspberry!” What a fun super fruity scent! This will definitely wake you up and put a smile on your face. Place a scented bar at the kid’s sink to keep them excited to wash up!
There was minimal discoloration of note, a very light pale tan color. We used the maximum suggested usage rate of 2.5%, which is 0.4 ounces of fragrance in our 1 pound test batch. |

Our second fragrance in Cold Process Soap is Red Grape & Blueberry. According to our catalog, Red Grape & Blueberry is “a fruity blend of grape skins, strawberry, blueberry, pineapple and honeysuckle. Base notes of tobacco, caramel and balsamic amber round out this fruity with a twist scent. Fresh, sweet but not cloying, a great scent for soaps.” A fairly mild fruity and not overwhelming scent at all in soap. I can definitely detect the fruity blend without the over-the-top kick of scent. A delightful fragrance.

| Our third fragrance in Cold Process Soap is Berries & Twigs. According to our catalog, Berries & Twigs is “a twist of favorite scents. Raspberries and grapefruit play into a warm mixture of earthy oak and moss.” A warm combination of scents with an explosion of raspberries with an earthy citrus twist. Love this scent in room sprays and lotions and now in my soaps!

Our fourth fragrance in Cold Process Soap is Cranberry. According to our catalog, Cranberry “has been a popular request in the fragrance area for a while. We have tried many different blends and not found a real, crisp cranberry scent. This one is lovely though! It changed our minds on what a cranberry scent could be once it grew up. Crisp, tart, red and refreshing. This scent isn’t just for the holidays, it is for anytime you want a fresh berry scent that isn’t overwhelmingly sweet. We are sure you will enjoy this scent anytime.” This scented soap came out a pleasant soft fruity cranberry scent. Very refreshing!

| Our fifth and last fragrance for today in Cold Process soap is Earth. Earth according to our catalog states “It’s back! Hunters requested this scent to use in their soap for their bodies and clothes. It smells just like fresh turned farm dirt. Could your children ever complain about taking a bath with dirt soap? A fun twist of expectations!” If you love the scent of dirt, this is for you! For all the the hunters, gardeners and outdoorsy folks, when you can’t get enough of that fresh dirt smell – Earth is for you! Reminds me of the smell you get when turning over the dirt to plant new flowers and trees.

Our temperatures for lye and oils are between 125°F and 130°F to handle our currently cool weather. We make our soap with a 6% superfat. All of the batches we make are mixed to light trace and then the fragrance is added. After the fragrance is added we mix until the fragrance is incorporated and then we pour into the mold.
