Men's After Shave Cream

Today I wanted to make an after shave cream. Sometimes skin can be incredibly irritated after shaving and needs both a moisturizer and a mild cooling agent. If you have ever gotten razor burn, you can understand why! Come join me for a wonderful aftershave cream!

To start, I wanted to have Rose Hip Oil in the formulation. Rose Hip Oil is a truly exquisite oil that is delightfully pampering. And after a shave, who has skin that doesn’t need some extra love and care?

Secondly, I used Avocado Butter. I consider Avocado Butter to be a form of absolute indulgence without breaking the bank. I also find it to be wonderfully gentle, making it perfect for the delicate skin of the face.

Next, I used Emulsifying Wax. Emulsifying Wax prevents any of the lovely products you make from separating. It keeps the oil and water in suspension until the last bit of cream is wiped from the bottom of the jar!

Due to the fact that this lotion is to be used on the face, I used my favorite humectant, Hydrovance! I have always felt that Hydrovance is one of the lightest and longest lasting humectants we have in our catalog. However, please feel free to use whichever humectant you have on hand or prefer. This is why many of us make our own products. So we can have it tailor made to our satisfaction!

I also added Dimethicone to this formulation. Dimethicone is a silicone oil that contributes a wonderfully silky sensation to the cream without feeling heavy or sticky. It also allows the skin to breath normally. Can you ask for anything better in an oil? I am not sure I can!

Another ingredient I added to this cream is Peppermint Oil. It contributes a light cooling sensation but please limit your use of Peppermint Oil in any product that goes on the face. I would add no more than the 0.5% I have listed in this recipe. It is always better to have too little than too much as an excess of Peppermint Oil can be an irritant. It is an even better test route to make this product using 1/10th of a percent, or 0.1% Peppermint Oil then increase as desired.

Lastly, for safety reasons, I have added Liquid Germall Plus as my preservative. You are consider leaving out the preservative because you are only making it for personal reasons, please don’t. We at MMS will always consider your safety first. If you want to see why we so strongly recommend using a preservative, place take the time to read this post on the Importance of a Preservative.
