Christmas Inspired Chocolate Orange Lip Balm

Christmas Inspired Chocolate Orange Lip Balm

I love Christmas and the joy it brings. So when I discovered one of those Chocolate Oranges left over from Christmas the other night, I was immediately walking down memory lane. I remember as a young girl sitting at the kitchen table, giggling at whatever board game we had been playing and watching my father smack the chocolate orange before unwrapping it to reveal the orange shaped segments. I remember putting together gift baskets with my mother and tucking in a chocolate orange in among all the other goodies we had made. It really was a treat to unwrap that orange and share the chocolate segments. What a treat!

Today I want to make a treat that reminds me of the spirit of Christmas spirit all year long. What do I have in mind? A lip balm, of course! (Never mind that my purse already has 6 or more lip balms already in there.) I wanted this lip balm to have lots of flavor. To achieve that, I used our yummy Orange Butter and our Regular Cocoa Butter. To enhance the chocolate flavor, I added a tiny amount of our Chocolate Cream Flavor. It also adds some sweetness to the lip balm to make it super tasty! Will you come join me today for a little bit of fun?

Weighing Beeswax and Orange Butter

I am so excited to make this yummy tasting lip balm! Let’s get started. In a microwave safe container, weigh out the beeswax, orange butter, cocoa butter, castor oil and sweet almond oil. Heat gently in the microwave until the mixture is liquid. If you still have a few stubborn lumps of beeswax, don’t worry. Simply stir the mixture and the heat should cause the beeswax to melt. Once everything is liquid, add the Chocolate Cream Flavor Oil. Stir the mixture well to make sure everything is cohesive.

From here, you can either pipette the mixture into your tubes, or you can use a filling tray. I like using a filling tray because they are simple and fast. If you are using a filling tray, insert your tubes into your tray. Flood the tray with your melted lip balm. Allow the mixture to cool. Scrape off the excess. I like to use a plastic putty knife. Remove the tubes from the tray then cap.

If you are going to pipette the lip balm into the tubes, fill the tube until you get a dome of liquid material at the top. Wax shrinks when it cools and doing this helps ensure that you get a very pretty top. Fill all of your tubes making sure they are domed on the top before they cool. (You may need to reheat your lip balm during this process. This is normal and to be expected.) Allow the tubes to cool and cap.

Weighing Cocoa Butter

Now you can give your lip balm a pretty label or put it into a cute bag. Enjoy this great lip balm or give as gifts!
