Erin's Lip Balm Formulation - Day 2

Now that we have Erin’s recipe converted to weight, let’s change her formulation to stop that “wax candle” sensation on the lips. Are you ready? Let’s go to the test kitchen!

To help combat that wax candle sensation on the lips we need a variety of solid and liquid oils, not just liquid ones. We will need one hard, and/or brittle oil and one that is solid but not brittle at room temperature. For the solid but not brittle oils, my two favorites are Shea Butter and Coconut Oil. Shea Butter is very smooth and creamy. Coconut Oil melts at body temperature, providing a wonderful glide to the finished lip balm. Cocoa Butter and Palm Kernel Oil are great choices for your brittle oils. However, you should choose oils you enjoy having on your skin.

I choose to add Coconut Oil and Cocoa Butter. I really like how Coconut Oil will melt at skin temperature, providing a very smooth glide. Coconut Oil makes my skin feel soft and protected without feeling like I was dunked in a tub of Vaseline. It also gives the skin a soft, healthy glow. I’ll take that any day! The Cocoa Butter is really nice because I can easily swap the Regular Cocoa Butter for Deodorized Cocoa Butter without a noticeable difference in my lip balm, besides flavor and smell. I love the chocolate odor and taste that Regular Cocoa Butter gives.
