Just for Her - Pretty in Pink Soap

Finished Soap

Finished Soap

Valentine’s is almost here and I am so excited. I love seeing everything decorated in pinks, reds, purples and white. I love see the romantic gestures and love seeing people out for a quiet dinner with each other. Okay, I admit it. I am a hopeless romantic. I still read children’s fiction because they focus on hold hands and falling in love instead of falling into bed. I mean, who writes better romantic stories than the authors of children’s stories?

Weighing Oils

Weighing Oils

I wanted to make a soap for everyone who enjoys Valentine’s as much as I do. I chose to use our Just for You Fragrance Oil because it smells just like a flower bouquet, made just for you. It is PERFECT for the upcoming holiday.

I also wanted a soft pink color. To achieve it, I used our water soluble Grape colorant. Why Grape, do you ask? Our Grape colorant turns a purple/pink color in high alkaline situations. (Think lye.) I used just a little so my soap would be pink. If I used more color, my soap would be more purple. How cool is that?!

Lye Solution

Lye Solution

Weigh all of you oils into a microwave safe container. Heat them gently until they are liquid. We do not want the oils to be super heated. While the oils are heating, mix the lye and the water to create your lye solution. Allow both mixtures to cool to about 120 F. I added my color to my lye solution while I was waiting for things to cool. This allowed me to get an idea of what the color would be like. I added about 6 ml of diluted Grape Color.

Once things were closer to temperature, I mixed my lye and oils together. (I should have waited a little longer. I ended up with a volcano.) Once I reached trace, I added my fragrance oil and hand stirred it in. I poured my soap into my mold at left it for about an hour. Andee then came to tell me I had a beautiful pink volcano in the blog kitchen. I rushed back into to scoop my soap back into the mold. The result? Not the most elegant top but I like the rustic, mottled color that resulted.
