Soap for Stinky Pups

Soap for Stinky Pups

Finished Soap

Finished Soap

Hello friends! I hope you all enjoyed Taylor’s story about poor, little Gracie getting skunked! We decided to come up with a recipe for a bar soap for dogs. GUYS! This is my very first time making soap. Crazy, I know. I was super nervous when I first started making this soap that I completely forgot one step. When I combined my oils and Lye solution I forgot to make sure my temperatures were under 120° F. So in the end my soap didn’t turn out the most beautiful but it didn’t explode or anything so I consider that a success.

I followed one of Taylor’s previous posts called Introduction to Soap, using the 6-5-4-1 formula. On top of that I also added some Cyclomethicone , Dimethicone, and some Alice Fragrance Oil. The Cyclomethicone and Dimethicone will help untangle dog fur and leave it feeling silky smooth.

In order to make this soap first you’ll want to mix the Lye and water and set aside to cool. Remember that the lye goes in the water, not the water into the lye. I was told,” Do what you otter and put your chemical in the water.” Now I’ll never forget! Next weigh the Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, and Mango Butter into a microwave safe container, and heat until fully melted. Make sure the temperatures of both the oils and the Lye are under 120º F before mixing. Now pour your Lye into the oils and using an immersion blender, blend until it starts to thicken up. Add the Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone, and fragrance oil. Blend until full mixed and you see signs of tracing. Then you should be good to pour it into the mold. Let cool overnight before popping it out of the mold. I hope you enjoy this dog soap!
