Easy Chocolate Mint Lip Balm

Easy Chocolate Mint Lip Balm

It’s Chocolate Mint Day, and I was inspired to make a really easy lip balm with the addition of Castor Wax which I haven’t had a chance to try using yet.

Finished tubes of Chocolate Mint Lip Balm.

I’m using the tutorial in the Recipes section on our website called Make Your Own Lip Balm. I’m going to make a few changes to the recipe, but the basic bones of the recipe are going to stay intact.

  • 20% Beeswax
  • 25% solid at room temperature oil
  • 15% brittle at room temperature oil
  • 40% liquid oil at room temperature

Since Castor Wax has a higher melt point than Beeswax, I knew that I needed to adjust my needed amount of Castor Wax to account for the difference. I decided to decrease my Beeswax by 5% and use half of that 5% as Castor Wax as I didn’t want to make the lip balm too firm and unable to move in a lip balm tube. The remaining 2.5% was divided among my additives of extracts and flavors.

Beyond that simple change to the percentages of the Beeswax, I kept my recipe to the recommended percentages. Come join me today in the blog kitchen for a fun lip balm that is tasty, easy, and fun!

Weigh everything into a microwave-safe container except the Calendula Extract, Sugar Baby Flavor, and Peppermint Essential Oil. Heat gently until everything is liquid. If you have a few stubborn pieces of wax, remove the container from the microwave and stir until melted. Add the Calendula Extract, Sugar Baby Flavor, and Peppermint Essential Oil and mix well. Pour the lip balm into your containers. If you are using tubes, you can either pipette the lip balm into the tubes, or you can use one of our fabulous filling trays! Allow the lip balm to cool. Cap and enjoy!

Lip Balm Notes: I love the creamy and glossy texture of this lip balm! This lip balm has a heavier glossy feeling that is perfect for giving my winter chapped lips some wonderful TLC. I was even impressed that I was able to keep a tube in my pocket next to a pocket warmer without having my lip balm melt! This is definitely a great lip balm for year round use and for both casual and fancier environs. Would I make this recipe again? Oh yeah!

I made lots of samples so I could share with all of our #adventurousmakers. Don’t forget to request a sample with your next order!
