Mary's Christmas Soap

Here is a recipe that I concocted for use as a base soap in making all the soaps I have made for Christmas presents. It has worked very well with all of the different fragrance oils I have used, and it feels really nice on the skin, too.

Ingredients:

  • 16 oz wt Coconut Oil
  • 18 oz wt Peanut Oil
  • 16 oz wt Lard
  • 19 oz water or other liquid
  • 7 oz wt Lye (sodium hydroxide)
  • fragrance oil as desired

Instructions:

I mix the oils and lye/liquid at around 95°F and let the soap stay in the mold for about 48 hours before taking it out to cut into bars. Let the soap cure for about 2-3 weeks and enjoy!! I figure it makes about 18 4-oz bars.
