Orange Butter Lip Balm
This...
Today I am adding a different color to the baby ointment.
I need to be careful not to use anything that will cause skin irritation, however.
I chose Seabuckthorn Fruit Oil. It is a brilliant orange that intensely colors anything it is added to. Seabuckthorn also has some regenerative properties for the skin.

OUNCES (makes 4 oz) 1.2 ounces HMP Shea Butter 1.2 ounces Aloe Butter 0.4 ounce Soy Wax 0.32 ounce Cherry Oil 0.2 ounce Lanolin 0.2 ounce Tamanu Oil 0.08 ounce Seabuckthorn Fruit Oil 0.4 ounce Calendula Oil Extract |

Carefully weigh all ingredients into a microwave-safe container except the Calendula Extract. Microwave in short bursts (30-45 seconds) and stir in between. This will help to prevent overheating and assist the Soy Wax to melt faster.
The Soy Wax takes a little bit longer to melt and the mixture will get quite hot. The mixture will be a brilliant, clear, orange color from the Seabuckthorn Fruit Oil. Wait for the mixture to cool before adding the Calendula Extract. Do not let it become too cool and start to get hazy.
After the extract is added, pour immediately into jars or bottles and let sit overnight to set up and solidify.
This mixture is just as fluid as the Day 2 formula, but there is some added WOW! with the color.
I was very pleased with today’s formula. When put on the skin, there is hardly any difference between the feel of Day 2 and Day 3 formulations; the change was all about the color.
When the ingredients are melted, the mixture is a brilliant clear orange. When it solidifies, it turns an opaque orange similar to fresh pumpkin puree.
I am still not 100% satisfied. The final product might be a little too strong of an orange color, so I might try to lighten the overall color. I am also really loving the Lanolin in this formula and might want to add even more. Check back tomorrow to see how the formula changes!
