I really enjoyed the time I spent in China. It has really opened my eyes to different cultures, foods, and cosmetics. We are in the middle of the Chinese New Year and I was inspired to make a soap with the two colors that seem to paint every city during the Chinese New Year. Those colors are red and gold. Come join me for a fun, Chinese colored, swirl soap.
I will be using a combination of Hydrogenated Soy, Coconut Oil and Olive Oil. I really like this oil combination because I can get a nice hard bar that produces a great amount of lather. I love it! I had intended to fragrance my soap with our White Ginger and Amber Fragrance Oil but when I got to the actual soap making, I forgot! Whoops. The good news is that the soap is still useable. Next time I will make sure I don’t forget my fragrance oil.
Recipe:
Weigh the two selections of oils into two separate microwave safe containers. Heat gently until liquid. Add the Sodium Hydroxide to two containers of water to form two lye solutions. Allow the oils and the lye to cool to a lower temperature. We do not want to have the soap overheat and volcano. Mix the oils and lye solution and blend until trace is achieved. Add the color at this point. My color was dispersed into glycerin first. Stir well. Layer each color into the mold then swirl with a spoon. Allow to sit for 24 hours. Cut the soap. Allow the soap to cure. Longer curing time will result in a harder bar. Enjoy! |
