Halloween Foaming Layered Bath Salts

After reviewing the entire blog while correcting errors and mistakes, I’ve found new inspiration in a very old post. I found myself wanting to redo the Foaming Fruity Layers recipe with some new twists and percentages!

The original post was a combination of relaxing salts and fun bubbles. I wanted to keep the great combination for relaxation and fun, but I wanted to spice up the recipe with a Halloween twist. (After all, Halloween IS my favorite holiday!) This scent blend is also a great treat. According to Joy, “The Halloween Treats Scent Blend is great. The blend gives a nice depth to the Frosted Cupcakes and complements the Halloween theme of candy, candy, and more candy.“Let’s take a look at the main ingredients first.

Epsom Salt is one of those ingredients that I feel can stand alone, but really “pops” when used in a fun new way. I enjoy the soothing relaxation that accompanies a foot soak or bath with these salts.

I wanted to contribute a little volume to the bath salts, so I added a little bit of Natrasorb to the formula. This powder also allowed me to ensure the fragrance would be evenly distributed throughout the entire batch.

While I’m not a bath person, I know lots of people who are. (I’m not even missing a bath tub here in China!) Most of the bath tub junkies are also bubble junkies, so Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate is the perfect ingredient to give those junkies the bubbles they desire.

Collect needed items:

Recipe: (Makes 100 grams or 3.53 ounces)

Recipe in ounces: 3.28 ounces Epsom Salt 0.19 ounces Natrasorb 0.04 ounces Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate 0.03 ounces Halloween Treats Fragrance Blend Q.S. Premixed Color of Choice

Recipe in grams: 93 grams Epsom Salt 5.25 grams Natrasorb 1 gram Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate 0.75 gram Halloween Treats Fragrance Blend Q.S. Premixed Color of Choice

Recipe in Percentages 93% Epsom Salt 5.25% Natrasorb 1% Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate 0.75% Halloween Treats Fragrance Blend (Moderate usage) Q.S. Premixed Color of Choice

Halloween Treats Fragrance Blend in Percentages 50% Frosted Cupcakes Fragrance Oil 33% Lemon Sugar type Fragrance Oil 17% Red Clover Tea Fragrance Oil

* The premixed colors were made by mixing 1/2 tsp of dry dye colorant with 2 ounces of water in a 2 oz bottle with a spray head. After the color was mixed, I used this to makes the salts my desired color.

Weigh all dry ingredients into your desired mixing container. Mix thoroughly and then add the fragrance blend. Once the fragrance and dry ingredients have been thoroughly mixed, divide the mixture into three portions in plastic bags. Leave one portion white and set aside.

Using a spray bottle filled with premixed color of yellow, spritz another portion several times. I usually spritz about 5 times and then knead the bag to completely mix the color with the bath salts mixture. I will repeat the spritzing process as many times as it takes me to have the salts colored to the desired point. Once the salt is colored to your desired point, set the bag aside and repeat on the last portion with the red and yellow colors to make an orange colored mixture.

Now you can bottle or bag as you desire. We put our blog test batch in the 1 oz Cylinder bottles. Super cute and a perfect gift size! You can easily increase the batch size and fill many Bath Salt Tubes if you desire. What style do you prefer?

As Joy made the blog test batch for me, I was tickled pink to hear her comments and experiences while making these bath salts. Here are her comments to share her perspective with you.

The Halloween Foaming Layered Bath Salts was a trial to make at first but a really fun experience. I had the biggest problem getting the orange to come out properly. I used purple raspberry and lemon yellow drops separately, thinking they would mix together to make orange but that did not work well. I have pictures of a multicolored bath salt. I switched to a spray and the yellow came out fine. I still had a bugger of a time getting a good orange color spray. Very little purple raspberry is needed! I found that the more color I used the more the salt mixture clumped together. I let it dry out before putting it in the 1 oz PET bottle with cap and I found that I had to break it up a little. Using bags to knead the color and fragrance worked best for me. I cut a hole in the bag to pour it into containers.
