Walking Dead Mini Bath Bombs

Walking Dead Mini Bath Bombs

Halloween is a one of my favorite times of the year. I enjoy listening to creepy music, watching movies about zombies and vampires. (Sorry, not the Twilight vampires as I believe vampires should not sparkle.) I remembered seeing a soap that was inspired by zombies, so I decided to make a bath bomb that was inspired by Bram Stoker’s Dracula and the boxes filled with earth that were Dracula’s hiding places. Since bath bombs are easy, I decided they would make fun gifts or treats. Instead of making large bath bombs, I used a round tablespoon as a fast mold for mini bombs. I couldn’t help myself and decided to blend two earthy fragrances to make my “Walking Dead” scent blend. Joy told me that it could not have been more perfect blend and that the Earth gave it that “fresh dirt” smell but in a more elegant way.Since two of these ingredients are something that you should be able to easily find at your local grocery store, I can’t think of a reason to wait. Let’s make these fun Walking Dead Mini Bath Bombs!

Come join me in the blog kitchen as we have some fun!

* The premixed color was made by mixing 1/2 tsp of dry dye colorant with 2 ounces of water in a 2 oz bottle with a spray head. After the color was mixed, I used this to makes the bath bombs my desired color.

Weigh all the dry ingredients and place into a mixing bowl. Gently mix until the dry ingredients have been completely mixed together. Add the scent blend and mix to break up all clumps. This mixture must be a free-flowing powder before we start adding color and water.

Mist lightly with the plain water bottle. Two to four sprays should be plenty. We are trying to add enough water to the dry chemicals so we can compress them into the mold, we don’t want to start the fizzing reaction just yet. Stir, or fold over, the powder to mix thoroughly and not create a dust cloud in your kitchen.

Let’s spray again. Stir gently.

This time we will spray color. Two to four sprays are plenty. Mix again. We will continue in this process of adding color or plain water to the mixture just until the whole mixture is slightly damp. The mixture should hold together when tightly compressed.

Press the mixture firmly into a tablespoon and then lightly tap the tablespoon into your hand to release it. You can make multiple half ball fizzies and set them aside to dry where they won’t be bothered. Viola! You now have mini bath bombs that are fast to make. Allow the bath bombs to dry overnight before packaging.

As Joy made the blog test batch for me, I was tickled pink to hear her comments and experiences while making these mini bath bombs. Here are her comments to share her perspective with you.

For the Walking Dead Mini Bath Bombs, I used a Purple Raspberry Spray for a total of 7 sprays in a 100 gram batch. I broke them up and stirred halfway through. I photoed me stirring the color in the beaker but then switched to a bag when I sprayed the water and kneaded the mixture. As a newbie, I was surprised at how much water it took to make the mixture damp enough to press into the tablespoon. Once it started to clump I knew that it was time to press. I got 6 tablespoons out of 100 grams. I used about 10 drops of the scent blend. I realized I could not send out the tablespoon balls in the mail without it making a mess so I made another larger batch and pressed it into a small disk clamshell to ship out as samples for the blog and took a picture of the clamshell.

What do you think about this? Would you change it or style this for another holiday?
