Janet's Light Facial Lotion

The best kept secret just might be in your cupboard!

The best kept secret just might be in your cupboard!

Janet messaged me asking for assistance in creating a light, silky face cream for someone with mature skin. I was happy to oblige. As we grow and age, our skin has different requirements. I find that mature skin tends to want to be moisturized often with light lotions instead of heavier, long-lasting lotions. Longer lasting lotions can often feel too heavy for such delicate skin. So let’s go make a lotion that fits just what Janet needs!

First I started with Dry Flo TS. Dry Flo TS is a great additive that helps reduce a heavy, oily feel in lotions and imparts a silky, drier feel to the skin. It is a great item to keep stocked in your cupboard because it not only lightens lotions but also can be used to make body powders! How many items can claim such versatility?

Second, I used Argan Oil. Argan Oil is a lightweight oil that is penetrating and has a non-greasy texture. This is perfect for the tender skin of the face. After all, why not treat our own skin deserving of the women and men we are?

Next, I used Black Cumin Oil. Now Black Cumin Oil is not only an exotic, luxury oil, it does really well when dry skin occurs. Because keeping the facial skin moisturized (especially in summer) can be difficult, I wanted something a little longer lasting without the heaviness that often accompanies that kind of durability. Now that is what I call getting two birds with one stone!

I also used Cherry Oil. While Cherry Oil is something that can literally come from our backyards, I still think of it as an oil of opulence that can be overlooked. Make no mistake, it also adds big bang to your formulations. It is lightweight oil that is high in oleic acids. In other words, it is super kind to the skin.

Because this is a lotion designed for the face, I really wanted to make sure I added a humectant. A humectant gives a moisturizing power punch to the lotions and creams you make. Perfect for when you want your products to rival the major cosmetic giants. I decided to use Hydrovance for my humectant, however, you can use any humectant you wish or even go without!

Last, do not forget to use a preservative! These are very important for your safety! The last thing you want to do is to spread lots of bacteria near your eyes, ears, mouth and nose. Please be safe and use a preservative. I will use Liquid Germall Plus but you can use whatever is most convenient.
