Soothing Baby Stick

I am the newest member of the blog team and I have a great recipe for you! The Soothing Baby Stick was inspired by my 3-year-old who loves all the scents and lotions that I try at home and rub on her to soothe her. I find that when I rub my child, and talk to her at nap time or at bedtime, with an interesting scent that it calms her down and helps her drift off to sleep. This works especially well when she thinks she is not ready for bed but mom knows the sooner the better! Now that I have her accustomed to scents I thought that I would try it in a balm/stick form that is a sort of an aromatherapy to soothe her into sleep. For this balm I used oils that glide on smooth and soak in fast. The balm is meant to be applied on the chest, the temples, the neck, and anywhere you want to help achieve that aromatherapy state of mind. I chose a few scents that are calming in nature and blended them together to create one great new scent!

Recipe yields approximately 100.25 grams or 3.54 ounces. I filled 20 of the regular lip balm tubes with this recipe, but I would also recommend trying the lotion bar tubes.

1.5 grams Lemongrass Essential Oil.

0.04 ounces Rosemary Essential Oil
0.04 ounces Williamette Valley Peppermint Essential Oil
0.05 ounces Lemongrass Essential Oil

Instructions:

Measure out all of your ingredients carefully except for the scent blend into a microwave-safe container. Microwave in short bursts of time until all ingredients are just melted together (somewhere around 2 or 3 minutes for me). If your mixture passes the pipette test, add your scent blend. Pipette your mixture into desired lip balm tubes.

Rub the baby stick on the temples, neck, chest, and anywhere else you would like to experience the wonderful aromatherapy.

Hint: If you would like to make some to share with your family or friends then use small lip balm tubes. If you want one big one for just you and your family then consider using our bigger lip balm tubes all the way up to the lotion bar tube.

Note: The pipette test is a way to quickly check to see if your mixture is too hot to pour into your lip balm containers. Insert your small pipette into your melted mixture. When you take the pipette out of the oils and it is straight, then you can proceed to adding the mixture into your lip balm containers. If it bends or curves it is TOO HOT! Wait a while and then recheck.

Additional Note:
In order to address the concerns that have been raised by this post, I would like to share some more information with our readers.

Joy’s 3 year old daughter is a rambunctious baby and I am using the term baby liberally. She loves to cuddle, touch, and be rubbed. As this Soothing Baby Stick has been formulated to contain only 0.25% (1/4 of a percent) of an essential oil blend, we feel this is a very lightly scented product. Any essential oil or fragrance oil can be irritating if used at a percentage that is too high. We feel this is a acceptable use of essential oil for use on a baby or person of any age (including grandparents). The biggest goal of this product is to encourage the growth of a parent-child bond as a bed/nap time ritual.

I hope this helps!
