Turmeric Butter Lotion Bars

Turmeric Butter Lotion Bars

Turmeric Butter with finished Turmeric Lotion Bars.

Turmeric is a delicious spice and is noted for its anti-inflammatory properties. You can get the same boost using turmeric externally as well, and we have the perfect new product: Turmeric Butter!

We love this new butter with Turmeric Extract in a skin-loving base of Shea Butter, Palm Butter, Coconut Oil, and Jojoba Oil. Want more? The base is all organic!

This butter also contains Bisabolol, one of the terpenes in German Chamomile that is noted for being anti-inflammatory. That’s a perfect complement to turmeric’s properties. Isn’t science great to give us so many ways to care for skin, our body’s largest organ?

Today we’re bringing you a recipe for a lotion bar. Avocado Butter and Shea Butter are fantastic moisturizers, and they have properties that make skin look and feel great. Beeswax gives us the stiffness we need for the lotion bar. White Cocoa Butter gives us the properties we love about cocoa butter without the scent to compete with our fragrance. Rounding out the formula is Calendula Extract, another ingredient with and anti-inflammatory reputation. It’s also great to combat scaly, rough skin.

Let’s get started!

INSTRUCTIONS:
Weigh all but the extract, fragrance, and Vitamin E into a microwave-safe container. Heat in short bursts of time, stirring often, until everything is completely melted. Alternately, put the ingredients into the top of a double boiler and heat gently until melted.

All the various butters, beeswax, and oil ready to be melted.

After 1 minute 30 seconds in the microwave, the beeswax was still solid.

When the mixture is liquid, add the extract, fragrance, and Vitamin E. Stir well and immediately pour into your container of choice. I’m using our mini-deodorant tubes. I like that they have a larger surface area to rub over the skin. And it’s nice to be able to just put the lid back on when you’re done. Some people prefer bars they can hold in their hands, like bars of soap. I admit that is my preference, but sometimes that is not ideal – like when you drop your warmed lotion bar on the floor. Yuck!

It took two minutes to fully melt the mixture.

Filling the mini deodorant tubes.

It took the lotion bar about an hour to set up entirely in the tubes. Even so, I let them sit overnight before trying the product. This lotion bar goes on so very silky and smooth, and the light scent of Wild Mint & Ivy is a winner. I did some hoof trimming on my goats today, and my hands are pretty rough. This lotion bar left them feeling pampered and soothed, especially the spot where I accidentally trimmed my own hoof – er, I mean my hand – and the skin on the back of my hands that is irritated and itchy. The mini deodorant tubes are so good for applying this lotion bar. This is the first time I’ve used them, and I am a fan now! The best thing is that they have such a great space for a label!

If you make these lotion bars, would you use a different extract? Maybe orchid or comfrey? Or a different scent? I thought about a blend of clove, cinnamon, and orange essential oils.
